In the Republic of Ireland (RoI), the Health, Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has implemented a new Registration and Inspection system for all care homes, both public and private.

The Standards and associated criteria are challenging in their scope but achievable with sensible application.

Inspections

Inspections will be both announced and unannounced and will:
  • focus on outcomes for service users
  • provide clearer information to the public about a home's quality of service
  • reinforce providers' responsibility for quality through self-assessment approaches
  • target inspections resources on those poor quality services where improvement is most needed.
Inspection Reports

All HIQA inspection reports will be available for public viewing and there is a great opportunity for care homes to prove that they provide the best quality of care.

Equally, there is larger potential for damage to a care home’s reputation if consistent and high quality care is not provided.

Responsibility
The responsibility for the achievement, consistent maintenance and improvement to meet and exceed the minimum standards is firmly placed on the care home.  Failure to comply with the standards can result in the loss of registration.

QC3 recognize the importance of quality in care and can support your efforts to meet and exceed both the legal standards and your own personal vision.
